Richard Mille is set to sign “one of the best sprinters” as its newest sporting ambassador, in what may be the brand’s worst-kept secret.
In a release announced this week Richard Mille said that, due to Olympic rules, it cannot announce “his” name until three days after the 2012 Games’ closing ceremony.
The watch that accompanied the release, however, gives away just who this secret sprinter might be, with its palpable Jamaican colourway of black, green and yellow. The sprinter is set to wear a prototype of this Richard Mille tourbillon while running and will be the only sprinter to run with a tourbillion on his wrist.
However as WatchPro went to download the image of the timepiece we spotted its given name – ubolt – which somewhat gives the secret away.
The brand says that its partnership with the sprinter will remain in place through 2013 while the brand develops a new calibre.
Earlier this year Hublot created a special edition King Power timepiece dedicated to Usain Bolt, a watch that the brand had created with input from Bolt himself who said he wanted the watch “be a fusion of the symbols representing everything he holds dear”.
At the time Hublot’s chairman Jean-Claude Biver said: "It’s perfectly natural to be associated with the fastest man, not just on the planet, but the fastest since the Big Bang."
