IWC is the latest traditional watch manufacturer to acknowledge the digital age with a connected watch strap known as IWC Connect.
The product follows the ‘complementary’ strategy already implemented by Montblanc with its ‘e-strap’ that sees a connected, digital component integrated into a watch strap rather than affecting the integrity of the mechanical watch it secures.
The ‘intelligent tool’ will be embedded in the straps of mechanical timepieces from the company soon, starting with its Big Pilot’s watches. The IWC Connect module has been designed to “give wearers control over certain devices connected to the Internet of Things (devices embedded with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity), as well as provide fully fledged activity tracking”.
IWC Connect will give owners a degree of control over their digital surroundings without compromising on the watch itself. IWC will announce a launch date via its social media channels in the coming months.
