HTC expected to be next phone maker marching into smart watch territory

Mobile phone maker HTC will unveil its first smart watch in April, according to tech bloggers in the US.

The timepiece, expected to be called the HTC One smart watch, says Evan Blass (@evleakes), an American blogger and phone leaker renowned for his rumours turning into facts.

The HTC smart watch is expected to use the Android Wear operating system, and will be designed with a 360×360 pixel circular dial.

Evan Blass gives no prediction about the unit’s price.

HTC was first rumoured to be developing a smartwatch in 2014, but withdrew as rivals poured money into the sector with little sign of success.

With the smart watch sector now settling and gaining acceptance, most major phone makers are creating them as companion devices.
