Hotel lets guests control room with Apple Watch

A new concept hotel in London is offering guests the chance to control numerous aspects of their room using a smart watch.

The Premier Inn concept hub in Covent Garden allows guests to control the television, room temperature and lighting via a smart watch app.

A hotel specific app has been developed for iPhone and Google-based smartphones, allowing guests to book, check-in digitally and order breakfast. However the Apple Watch-optimised app has added functionality for guests using Apple’s smartwatch.

Guests wearing an Apple Watch will be able to adjust room temperature and lighting, switch on a ‘do not disturb’ sign and even control the televisions with a swipe.

The app will even interact with a smart map on the hotel wall, bringing up an interactive guide to London.

Premier Inn hub opened at 110 Saint Martin’s Lane last year, with another 13 in development. The app has been developed by London digital agency Monitise Create.
