Trupti Shah doesn’t like to make things easy for herself. Whilst planning a wedding would be enough for most people, she had to simultaneously throw a new job into the mix.
Just six months into her role at World Duty Free Group and she is certainly not letting the romance of her Cape Cod proposal and impeding nuptials slow her down any. In the short time that she has been heading up watch buying for the UK she has already made a marked impact, injecting new life into the group’s 53 UK shops with a raft of fresh brands.
She is also using her contacts from nine years in the watch industry – she joined WDFG from DM London – to introduce a cache of watchmakers to the luxury offering at its store in Stansted Airport, which has recently undergone a £40 million refurbishment. These new additions will take the group’s UK watch offer to previously unchartered heights.
“We have definitely made a difference to the category by introducing more brands, forging relationships with new brand partners and, overall, helping to lift brand profiles across the 21 airports in which WDFG operate in the UK,” she says.
With plans to increase turnover, broaden the variety of the offer and, of course, tie the knot, it looks to be a busy time for Trupti – just how she likes it. “Starting a new job and planning a wedding is not something I would recommend,” she laughs. “But I surround myself with strong, positive individuals and work extremely hard, as I hate defeat.”
