HIGHLY COMMENDED: Showstoppers of the Year, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie

Audemars Piguet produced the finest chime to reach our ears at this year’s SIHH.

This was no fluke, as the brand worked with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, one of the world’s leading research institutes of physical sciences and engineering to produce the perfect note for its latest minute repeater.

The partnership pioneered a chiming mechanism producing a sound that delights the human senses.

The limited edition has gone on sale in AP boutiques in November for around CHF 500,000.

The 44 x 16.5mm titanium case is also carefully considered for the way it conducts the sound.

The watch’s minute repeater on two gongs, tourbillon, chronograph with central sweep-seconds hand, 30-minute counter, hours, minutes, are created using the hand-wound Manufacture Calibre 2937.

“This timepiece is precision-made to awaken sound. It brings unprecedented acoustic performance, exceptionally refined sound quality and the clear, harmonic tone of traditional pocket-watches to a contemporary minute repeater wristwatch,” AP says.
