Highly Commended: Quartz Watches of the Year, Skagen Gitte Moonphase


The Gitte Moonphase perfectly illustrates the kind of warm, charming design coming out of Fossil-owned Danish brand Skagen that has really won us over this year.

Moonphase watches are usually fairly straight-faced creations despite the reputed maddening qualities of a full moon.

Skagen however wraps it up in a soft, round bubble of rose gold-coated stainless steel. Personality is also injected into the design through the jaunty angle of the moonphase window and the dark void created by the almost featureless black dial.

But paired with its slim, tone-matched mesh bracelet and the combination of gold and black, as well as a sprinkling of stars, serve to transform the Gitte into a formidable, flexible fashion accessory capable of lifting outfits whatever the occasion.
