CEO Aldo Magada’s streamlining of the Zenith offer witnessed two very significant watches arrive at Baselworld, both very much related to the other in terms of the design approach taken and both among the finest watches released this year.
The first is this Elite Chronograph Classic, the very embodiment of the dress chronograph with sleek metallic lines, domed crystal, sunray brushed dial and subtle pushers that preserve the lines of the case.
The dial is free to showcase its brushing thanks to its two simple registers, slender indices and lack of any discernible clutter. While many manufacturers opted to release their most sartorial watches in sub-40mm cases this year, Zenith stuck with a 42mm diameter for the Chronograph Classic.
Thankfully, due to its tapered lugs the watch wears smaller on the wrist. Inside beats a high frequency, automatic, column wheel El Primero 4069 chronograph movement offering the watch historic prestige on top of its movie star good looks.
