HEARST PICKS: Smartwatches of the Year, TAG Heuer Connected Rose Gold

The gamble from TAG Heuer to enter the smartwatch race is paying off.

Production of the first £1100 TAG Heuer Connected was initially set at around 1200 units per week.

This was almost immediately increased to 2000 units as retailers reported that the watches were selling out with pre-orders before going on sale to the public.

Technological upgrades have followed, but perhaps the more significant move this year has been the creation of a £9000 luxury edition in a rose gold case that reminds the world that TAG is first and foremost a luxury Swiss watchmaker.

All models come in a 46mm case housing computer power designed by Intel and running Android Wear.

It has 4GB of memory and a lithium battery providing one day of power.

The watch is fitted with a small microphone enabling the wearer to communicate with it using Google Voice control, as well as a sapphire crystal touchscreen, to be used alongside the command push button at 3 o’clock.

The watch is designed to be water-resistant.
