Hamilton watches bag starring role in The Martian

Hamilton continues its tradition of starring roles in cinematic blockbusters with four watches set to appear in epic space thriller, The Martian.

Hamilton’s BeLOWZERO features as the watch worn by Matt Damon, who plays astronaut Mark Watney in Ridley Scott’s big screen adaptation of Andy Weir’s hit novel.

Watney, presumed dead, is left stranded on the surface of Mars by his crew. The action centres on the ingenious astronaut as he struggles to survive on the meagre supplies available to him whilst his earthbound crew plot an impossible rescue mission. The story is told against the backdrop of the desperate NASA mission to recover Watney and the global news coverage of Watney’s extraordinary tale.

Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover also star in the film, set for release at the end of the month.

The film also features an X-Wind Limited Edition on the wrist of Rick Martinez (played by Michael Peña), Pilot Pioneer Aluminum watches worn by Commander Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain) and Beth Johanssen (Kate Mara) and a Railroad Auto Chrono worn by Dr Chris Beck (Sebastian Shaw).

“Our work with The Martian underlines the essence of the brand – the American Spirit and Swiss Precision,” said Sylvain Dolla, chief executive officer of Hamilton International. “Such attributes are so well reflected by the star-studded cast in their challenging roles, so our timepieces really are the perfect fit for this movie. Furthermore it exemplifies the ongoing relationship we have had with Hollywood over the past six decades and how we’ve collaborated with many talented behind-the-scenes professionals to help bring their characters to life.”

This latest starring role in The Martian is the latest in more than 450 Hamilton watch placements in films over the last 60 years and culminated in a Hamilton watch becoming a vital plot device in last year’s Interstellar starring Matthew McConaughey. Hamilton also stages its annual Behind the Camera Awards, honouring cinema’s off-screen talent.
