Garmin chips in with game-changing golf watches

Garmin has strengthened its Approach series of GPS golf products with two improved smartwatches and an enhanced GPS handheld gadget.

They all have more than 42,000 pre-loaded courses from around the world and come with Garmin’s club tracking sensor and golf app for uploading and sharing scorecards, reviewing performance stats and more game-changing features.

“Garmin brings technology to the forefront with the new Approach product line to help golfers play their best game while staying competitive and connected within the golfing community,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales.

“From smartwatches to GPS handheld, our latest Approach devices will also equip novice and veteran golfers alike with precision, style and attention to detail on every swing.”

Garmin’s Approach S42, Approach S12, and Approach G12 have a number of shared features designed to shave shots off any golfer’s score including:

  • Link with the Garmin Golf app to automatically upload scorecards, participate in weekly leaderboards and tournaments, review live scoring, strokes gained analysis, and much more.
  • Pair with the optional Approach CT10 club sensors for automatic club tracking to see how far players hit each club.
  • Gain precise distance to the front, middle, and back of the green, hazards, doglegs, layups and more, on any of the 42,000 pre-loaded courses worldwide.
  • Use the Green View feature to see each green’s true shape and to move the pin for better yardage accuracy, regardless of where a golfer is on the course.

The two GPS-connected smartwatches, Approach S42 and S12, have all the usual fitness and communications functions expected from today’s touchscreen timekeepers including smart notifications and activity-tracking features like steps, sleep, calories, vibration alerts, move bar and built-in sport profiles.

The S42, priced at $300, has up to 15 hours battery life in GPS mode, and up to 10 days in smartwatch mode.

The $200 monochrome S12 will work for 30 hours between charges in GPS mode.
