Garmin has included data on 41,000 golf courses world-wide on a special version of its luxury MARQ smartwatch.
The MARQ Golfer has a range features to help enhance a player’s game such as PlaysLike Distance, Hazard View and a Virtual Caddie to analyse critical factors like wind speed, course layout, and a golfer’s speed and a golfer’s club performance to select the best suited club for each shot.
Garmin global brand ambassador and golfing legend Greg Norman says the watch, which comes in a 46mm titanium case with ceramic bezel, improves his game on the course and looks good anywhere.
“As someone who’s been involved in the game of golf for many decades, I’ve seen the evolution in golf technology and have seen first-hand the benefits of wearing a Garmin on my wrist,” says Mr Norman.
“At first glance, you wouldn’t expect the MARQ Golfer to have ultra-high-end GPS technology and smart features because it looks like a beautiful piece of jewellery, but I’ve found it’s the perfect watch to wear all day, both in the office and on the course,” he adds.
MARQ Golfer has a domed sapphire lens and an always-on, sunlight-readable display.
As well as golfing features, it has all the functions expected of any top end smartwatch including built-in music storage, Garmin Pay for contactless payments, smart notifications, daily activity tracking, as well as wrist-based heart rate monitoring. All activity tracking feeds into Garmin’s QuickFit app.
“Marq Golfer really is a celebration of the UK’s passion for golf, and an exciting addition to our MARQ collection,” says Ollie Stone, Head of Watch Sales, UK & Ireland at Garmin.
“With more courses than you could play in a lifetime, an ultra-premium build and market leading smart features, the Marq Golfer is packed with authenticity and functionality. It also boasts a battery life of up to 12 days, making it the best luxury companion for golfers whether they’re teeing up, working out or winding down.”
CourseView mapping determines distances to the front, middle and back of the green for any of the 41,000 pre-loaded courses.
The watch uses the PlaysLike Distance option to adjust yardages to compensate for uphill and downhill shots, and with Hazard View golfers can scroll through each hazard on the map to acquire distance information and know exactly what to avoid during play.
Additionally, MARQ Golfer uses an Autoshot round analyser to measure and record detected shot distances and suggest the correct club for each shot.
Its lithium battery provides up to 12 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and up to three rounds of golf on one charge.
The watch is on sale now for $1,850.
