Forget Black Friday, Beaverbrooks urges support for #GivingTuesday

Mark Adlestone and Beaverbrooks team celebrating #GivingTuesday

Charitable retailer Beaverbrooks is celebrating raising more than £300,000 through Workplace Giving today which is being branded #GivingTuesday .

The hashtag is being used on social media to raise awareness of the automatic charitable donation scheme which is deducted from participants’ salary and donated to charities tax-free.  Beaverbrooks goes one step further and matches the charitable contributions of its employees.

So far the arrangement has resulted in over £300,000 being raised by Beaverbrooks and its employees for charity via Workplace Giving.

Beaverbrooks boasts a 33% uptake of Workplace Giving among its employees compared to a national average of just six percent, which makes it the scheme’s number one jewellery retail supporter and second largest on the high street.

Mark Adlestone, Beaverbrooks’ chairman, said: “We feel we have become an example of corporate philanthropy to much larger organisations and we are extremely proud to lead by example through our purpose of Enriching Lives, which simply means making a positive difference.

“If employers could do one thing which would cost them nothing but make a real difference to the world around them, it would be to ensure they offer a Payroll Giving scheme. It really is a no-brainer; the scheme is easy to administer and a tax efficient way for employees to regularly support charities of their choice by having a deduction taken straight from their salaries.

“Our people are very generous in supporting and giving to charities and we are very proud that they have donated such a phenomenal amount directly from their wages. Charitable giving is very much a part of our company’s DNA and it gives me great pride knowing that we have a very engaged workforce when it comes to helping others.”
