The hysteria among collectors and investors for the final Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711s in steel — one in olive green, the other in Tiffany blue — has withered as prices have fallen since March this year.

But the Gerald Genta-designed masterpiece is still a highly desirable watch, and the first example to appear at auction of the steel 5711’s replacement, the white gold 5811/1G-001, has just hammered for £118,000 ($143,000) at Watchcollecting.com.

That is more than double the retail price of $70,000 for the 5811 in the USA.

There were 70 bids for the lot on Watchcollecting.com.

“After a long encore, which included a pandemonium-inducing limited edition with Tiffany & Co., Patek Philippe’s poster child steel 5711 was finally laid to rest at the end of 2021,” Watchcollecting.com notes in the auction notes for the Nautilus 5811.

The 2022 Nautilus in white gold was sold with a full set of box and papers in unworn AAA condition.
