Dozens of WWI and WWII military watches on the block at online auction


Specialist auctioneer Gardiner Houlgate has something for everybody at its next online-only sale, which takes place on October 21.

There are 56 WWI or WWII military watches, a number of American pocket watches and even 13 electronic watches within the broad auction.

Big brands dominate, including 39 Rolexes, five Patek Philippes, 33 pieces from Omega and a smattering of other Swiss marques including Vacheron Constantin, IWC and Breitling.


Star lots for the auction include:

Lot 150 – Very fine and extremely rare Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner stainless steel gentleman’s bracelet watch with the 3-6-9 Explorer dial and pointed crown guard case, ref. 5512, circa 1961, serial no. 764xxx. Estimate £150,000-250,000.
Lot 188 – Fine Patek Philippe Complications Chronograph 18ct gentleman’s wristwatch, ref. 5170J-001. Estimate £28,000-35,000.





Lot 116 – Rare Special Order Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date GMT-Master II stainless steel gentleman’s bracelet watch, commissioned to commemorate the history of the Wildcat helicopter, ref. 1167108LNR, circa 2018, serial no. 76Q3xxxx, limited edition 19 of 20 pieces. Estimate £15,000-25,000.
Lot 127 – Fine Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master ‘Pepsi’ stainless steel gentleman’s bracelet watch, ref. 6542, circa 1958, serial no. 381xxx. Estimate £12,000-18,000.
