Bob’s Watches’ first online auction has sold 12 Rolex timepieces for $489,400.
The most expensive watch was a 1969 Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona with box and papers that smashed its reserve to sell for $215,000.
The winning bidder did not have to pay the usual buyer’s premium, which would have added around $25,000 to the price if it had been sold by one of the big auction houses.
A 2018 Rolex GMT Master II with Pepsi Bezel sold for $22,000. The buyer must have been a little carried away because an identical watch is for sale at the same Bob’s Watches website for $19,495.
The auction provided further evidence, if it were needed, that the market for steel Rolex sport watches is still on fire. There was not a single precious metal watch among the dozen on sale, but the lowest price paid was for a 1983 Submariner that went for $11,100.
All were sold with boxes, papers and the authenticity guarantee that Bob’s offers for all its watches.
