Ayrton Senna’s exploits on the track are well known, but he was also a pioneering watch ambassador.
He spent most of his racing days with TAG Heuer. At first he just wore regular watches from their catalogue, but eventually they started making watches in his name.
The idea of Ayrton Senna specials was really just getting going at the time of his untimely death in 1994.
But the depth of public admiration for him is evident from the fact that Senna still captivates people, after all these years.
There is a Netflix series about his life being released later this month, and TAG Heuer has just released a special watch to commemorate the anniversary of his passing.
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Senna has a skeleton dial and the 9 o’clock chronograph subdial contains a stylised Senna ‘S’.
It has a 44mm titanium and the open caseback has an image of Senna etched over the sapphire crystal.
The carbon bezel is inscribed with his name and the tachymeter reaches a Senna-esque 400km/h.
“Ayrton Senna has marked us all at TAG Heuer and has marked the world of motorsports, both on the track and in life,” said Antoine Pin, CEO of TAG Heuer. “We celebrate his enduring spirit and inspire future generations of champions just as he inspired us. This timepiece embodies the passion and precision that defined his remarkable journey.”
Bianca Senna, CEO of Senna Brand, added: “We are incredibly proud to continue our collaboration with TAG Heuer in creating exceptional timepieces like the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Senna. It is a privilege to see Ayrton’s legacy endure, and to have TAG Heuer as a partner in this journey. Ayrton would be deeply honoured by our efforts, and we hope this tribute not only celebrates his remarkable life but also inspires future generations to strive for greatness.”
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Senna is limited edition of 500 pieces and is available online.
