Angelina Jolie bought her new husband Brad Pitt a vintage Patek Philippe watch as a wedding gift, according to reports in British tabloids.
The Mirror is quoting a jeweller based in Malta, where the couple are currently on location, who said that he engraved the watch with the words “To Roly from Nessa”.
Roly and Nessa are the characters played by Jolie and Pitt in the film By The Sea, which is being filmed in Malta.
George Farrugia, who manages Dolindo Jewellers on a neighbouring island said: “I did inscribe the watch, it was for Brad and it was a rare one. Oh yes, it was very valuable.”
The Mirror story uses an illustration of a rare 1952 Patek Phillipe chronograph (pictured above), although details of the precise timepiece have not been confirmed, and Pitt has not been photographed wearing it.
If The Mirror is correct, the watch appears to be the Patek Philippe J.B. Champion Platinum Observatory Chronometer ref. 2458, which was last sold at auction by Christies in 2012 for $3,990,620 to Alfredo Paramico, who has subsequently sold it, according to reports.
The 2012 sale price was noteworthy as it set a new world record as the highest ever achieved for a watch without a complication.
