50 Brands of Basel: Pequignet

Pequignet is unveiling two new complications at once for the new version of its Calibre Royal: the GMT and the day/night indicator.

The Rue Royale GMT, with its more contemporary feel, is aimed at young professionals and frequent travellers. To date, it’s the only timepiece in the world to feature UTC dual time and a full calendar with triple instant jump.

The Calibre Royal movement is fully made and assembled in France – and the only one of its kind in the world. As adding another window would have cluttered the watch, which has a subtle, carefully thought-out aesthetic balance, Pequignet has placed the second time band inside the small seconds display at 4 o’clock.

It has then refined the finishing on each hand, making them quicker and easier to read: for the second time band, a slim hand with a red SuperLumiNova arrow tip, and for the small seconds hand, a fine silver tip – both of them gliding over a sun-brushed counter.
