AVI-8 will take to the skies at Baselworld by launching a new Lancaster Bomber automatic timepiece crafted out of solid, marine grade stainless steel and housing a precision 24 Jewels self-winding Japanese automatic movement.
The iconic enlarged date magnifier pays tribute to the bubble-like turrets of the Lancaster and, according to UK distributor Dartmouth Brands, it is destined to become one of the brand’s “most iconic” watches.
Details are abound on the 4038, including propeller-like hands on the 24h subdial through to rivet-style detail on the side of the case. The camouflage edition, meanwhile, borrows from the original camouflage patterns founds on Lancasters flying in WW2.
The exhibition caseback is semi-circular offering the viewer a glimpse of the rotor via a camouflaged tinted lens.
“The 48mm oversized case wears comfortably yet is an unmistakable piece of wartime aviation timekeeping,” states the brand.
