2019 NOVELTIES: Cartier brings back its barrel-shaped Tonneau timepieces

Cartier is reviving one of its most iconic watch shapes in 2019 with a modern interpretation of its Tonneau timepiece that was first produced in 1906.

The barrel shape was revolutionary in its time, and set in motion a creative movement that would not accept that all wristwatches should be round.

The 2019 collection includes a redesigned hours and minutes model and a skeleton dual time zone piece.

A 100-piece limited edition platinum version of the two-hander comes with a grey leather strap while a pink gold model — not limited — comes on a brown strap. Both are powered by the hand-wound Calibre 1917 MC movement in 16mm x 12.9mm cases.

Two skeletonised dual time watches are being introduced in larger 37.8mm x 24mm cases housing the hand wound calibre 9919 MC movement. Both platinum and pink gold versions are limited to 100 pieces.
