WINNER & HEARST PICK: Showstoppers of the Year, Bell & Ross Hyperstellar BR-X1

Bell & Ross arranges its watches into collections associated with air, land and sea; and very often with their equivalent militaries of army, air force and navy.

The BR-X1 Hyperstellar chronograph aims even higher, having been conceived to be worn by astronauts as they journey into space.

Every detail has been considered for use in space including ergonomic push-buttons suitable for astronauts with gloves, dial details ensuring optimal time reading and extra lightweight construction to conform to payload limits.

The cover, centre and surround of the 45mm case are made from polished and micro-blasted grade 5 titanium, while the bezel’s protective insert is in blue anodised aluminium, to combine lightness and strength.

To protect it from impacts during missions, the square case of the BR-X1 is covered with a bumper in micro-blasted titanium and rubber that acts as a peripheral protective shell.

The most show stopping edition is cased entirely in sapphire crystal. Only five are being made and, despite being priced at around €500,000, four have already been sold.
