Masterpieces of Watches & Wonders 2015 pt 2

Watches & Wonders revealed a host of new masterpieces from Richemont’s watch brands which we covered in part 1 last week here and here, and today WatchPro looks at other stand out pieces from the luxury watch show held in Hong Kong.

German haute horlogerie brand A Lange and Sohne presented four new models at the show including the 1815 200th Anniversary F.A. Lange in the brand’s proprietary ‘Honey Gold’ alloy with a solid silver, argente-graine dial, a nod to historic observation watches and marine chronometers.

This 200th birthday celebration of the Glashutte brand’s founder was joined by 37mm Saxonia models in white and pink gold with grey dials and the beautiful 36mm Little Lange, available in pink and white gold, with blue-tint mother of pearl dial.

Jaeger-LeCoultre shook things up in a very uncustomary manner with the latest model in its Geophysic revival, the Geophysic True Second. Gone are the trademark, but divisive, sword hands replaced by less obtrusive dagger hands. The watch also features deadbeat seconds, with the second hand jumping rather than sweeping.

But it is the 772 movement inside the Geophysic Universal Time that truly breaks new ground with its non-circular Gyrolab balance wheel, which first appeared within Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Master Compressor Extreme Lab 1 watch in 2007, designed to reduce air friction. The Geophysic Universal Time, a world timer with engraved and lacquered world map dial, is the first serially produced watch to feature it.

Montblanc revealed its Heritage Spirit Perpetual Calendar Sapphire, a 39mm 18ct red gold perpetual calendar, which reveals some of its inner mechanism through a smoked sapphire crystal dial.

Roger Dubuis put its expertise with multiple sprung balances into practice with the Excalibur Spider Pocket time instrument, a pocket watch featuring the RD101 movement with four sprung balances working in pairs to counteract the effects of gravity on isochronism.

After unveiling the world’s most complicated watch, the Ref. 57260, barely a week ago Vacheron Constantin still found time to launch ten new models at Watches & Wonders as well as an entirely new high jewellery collection, the Heures Creatives.

The highlight was the Patrimony Ultra-Thin Calibre 1731, two new platinum minute repeater references with a movement just 3.9mm deep and the watches just 8.1mm thick.

Other pieces included four new additions to the Malte collection, including two diamond-set novelties, the Traditionelle Small Model, the Traditionelle World Time, the Metiers d’art L’eloge de la Nature: Swan, the Maitre Cabinotier Perpetual Calendar Regulator.
