HIGHLY COMMENDED: Mechanical Watches of the Year, Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days GMT Automatic Acciaio

Panerai introduced four new models to its Radiomir 1940 line up this year, ensuring enthusiasts of the Italian brand have a range of creative dial designs and technical features to choose from.

Behind the dials, two new automatic calibres have been developed and made in house by the Panerai Manufacture team in Neuchâtel.

The two 3 Days GMT use the new P.4001 movement while the 3 Days GMT Power Reserves (pictured) use the P.4002.

Both calibres use the same off-centre bi-directional micro rotor, two spring barrels delivering three days of power, and a mechanism for stopping the balance, which helps set the watch precisely.

There is more to see on the dial than Panerai normally offers, but they are no less legible.

The design remains faithfully inspired by the historic examples created by Panerai for the commandos of the Italian Navy in around 1940.

The case is made of stainless steel with a polished finish and water resistant to 100m.
